Sacrament + DVD = 4.627 stars. - when sacrament first hit the shelves, like many a Lamb of God fan, i lovingly threw down the cash needed to procure a copy of it. i put it on, listened to it, enjoyed it to a degree, but (to be blunt) was still WAY too in love with the sound of Ashes... to be able to truly appreciate just how awesome this record is on its own, man. (hence the waiting so long to write a review.)you absolutely can t go wrong with this little jem of awesomeness, man, and while the price of the bonus DVD version is a considerable increase from the disc only release, dude, i promise, it s WORTH IT!the bonus is no mere 15 miunte behind-the-scenes-and-a-couple-videos thrown-in- cause-why-not kind of thing, man. it s a round about 90 freakin minute what we did after we released killadelphia within and outside Lamb Of God documentary, man, that i thought was just freakin rad, man. (though some of the ridiculous in-studio antics of producer machine made me want to kill myself a few times.) one of the coolest chunks of the dvd is the internal debate over mark morton s nouveau metale (sp), which eventually became descending. just interesting to see the in-house division over what seems to have become THE hot-button debate song among many fans, man. (and just in case you were wondering, i myself belong to the descending is AWESOME! camp.)overall, Sacrament alone is just plain righteous, man, but with the extra goody (that is WELL worthy of being called such) it s just out of sight. enjoy!!!
A vast improvement and a keeper - This cd is the bomb. Lamb of God have made a vast improvement from what they once were. Not that I didn t enjoy Ashes of the Wake but, the musicianship and lyrics are much better on this album. The album gets off to a good start with Walk with me in Hell. A gloomy doomsaying track, it sets the pace for the cd and has a killer riff and a fat breakdown. Another good track was Foot to the Throat. I absolutley love this song. It reminds of Slayer kind of or Metallica. I guess it reminds me of alot of bands but I can t really name one. That is what is so great about this cd. It doesn t sound like anything they have ever done. Redneck is the best song on this cd.His vocal stylings remind of Phil Anselmo Vulgar- era.Which is awesome since Pantera is one of my favorite bands of all time. This is a song to hit the gym to. Everyone always has to naysay and over-analyze music nowadays. It sounds like Pantera too much. It sounds like Slayer too much. It sounds like. Oh shut the hell up already. No one wants to hear your whining anymore. It sounds like Metal. Listen to it or don t.Five stars.
Better than most things out there - Like most die hard fans I guess I just end up liking the previous albums bands make over their newer ones most of the time. As you can witness on the dvd this album had a lot of last minute in the studio ideas especially on Randy s part. It serves as a docu closely resembling metallicas Moster dvd. This band is not always hanging and jammin together when it comes to the music. This cd sounds very influenced by Slipknot, Testament and Pantera. Was hoping for some more chunk in the music ala Meshuggah like the boys used to do. I think Mastodon has the right idea when it comes to being the NWOAM champs.
The palaces still burn - Good album great opening track after hearing it I just wanted too chant with Randy WALK WITH ME IN HELL!!!! and the single Redneck was great too, I d say the winners on this album are definately the first four tracks, but even then this album still doesn t have that old original as palaces burn feel to it. The dvd is an excellent bonus 90 minutes of various in studio and at home footage, I loved the chili cook-off thing with Randy (even though they lost). If you re a fan of Lamb of God or just a casual listener I d definately tell you too pick this one up.
